ROCKN’ to LOCKN’ Recap: South Hill Banks Stole the Show at The Broadberry
On Saturday night, ROCKN’ to LOCKN’ kicked off at The Broadberry in Richmond, VA. The battle was between Weekend Plans, Twin Brothers Band, Sid Kingsley, and South Hill Banks.
First up was Weekend Plans, a nine-piece group of Richmond natives playing jazz-influenced music, with the stylings of classic soul, R&B, hip-hop, and rock. They came out with the right energy and the right attitude to get the party started. Rolling from hip-hop to soul and dirty ripping jams, they had a strong, positive reception from the crowd.
Twin Brothers was up next. The funky Richmond band self-proclaims themselves, “the premier identical twin brothers funky rock ‘n’ roll jamband.” They had a strong stage presence and we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more from them in the future. They had most of the crowd rocking along throughout their set!
The third artist of the night was Sid Kingsley, an uplifting Richmond singer-songwriter with a soulful sound who can really groove. Sid Kingsley closed the set with a sit-in from Dan of South Hill Banks to bring it home. Talk about an incredibly steamy closing song!
Finally, jammy bluegrass band from Richmond, South Hill Banks, showed off their wild mix of music, playing bluegrass tunes blended with rock and the spirit and vibes of a jamband. After a long deliberation, South Hill Banks was declared the winner. The jam-infused bluegrass band captivated the crowd and won their spot at the FREE finale on Saturday, April 25 in downtown Charlottesville at Sprint Pavilion.
